WeCareAdvisor Privacy Policy

This privacy policy governs your use of WeCareAdvisor software application (“Application”) created by Drexel University and UC Davis.
WeCareAdvisor is an application that provides caregivers of people with dementia expert non-pharmacological advice on how to manage behaviors of the person cared for and caregiver stress. The Application includes educational resources for caregivers.

The suggestions in the Application are intended for guidance and not to replace advice or directions given by a physician, therapist, or other health or human service professional. Drexel University and UC Davis hereby disclaim liability for any injuries or damages resulting from or arising out of or in connection with the use of Application.

Your Consent

By using the Application, you are consenting to our processing of User Provided and Automatically Collection information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. “Processing,” means using cookies on a computer/handheld device or using or touching information in any way, including, but not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which activities will take place in the United States. If you reside outside the U.S. your information will be transferred to the U.S. and processed and stored there under U.S. privacy standards. By using the website and providing information to us, you consent to such transfer to, and processing in, the U.S.

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

The Application collects certain information described below, for the purposes of a research study being conducted by Drexel University and UC Davis called the “Efficacy of the WeCareAdvisor:  An online Tool to help caregivers manage behavioral symptoms in persons with dementia Study” (the “Study”).

The WeCareAdvisor Study Research Team (“Research Team”) which includes the Study’s principal investigators, Drexel and UC Davis employees involved in the Study, will only collect/use/share this information in compliance with this privacy policy, the Informed Consent you signed, and any applicable laws.

“Automatically Collected Information” – The Application collects technical information about your device and use of the Application when you log into it. Information such as your device’s operating system, the version of the Application, and the frequency the Application is accessed/used is collected by the Application and may be used to analyze and improve the quality of the Application.

“User Provided Information” – The Application obtains the information you enter into it voluntarily when you download the Application and log into the account that is created for you by the Research Team as part of your Study participation. Only enrolled participants of the Study will be able to log into the Application and use its features. When you log  into the Application, you are asked to provide (a) your username, email address, sms/push message preference, password and other information you would like to share with the Application such as your survey responses; (b) non-medical demographic information about the caregiver and person cared for (age, gender, race), and (c) information you provide us when you contact us for help; We may also use the information you provided us to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, and required notices.

This Application does not request information about the location of your device.

We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

The Research Team reserves the right to use and disclose your User Provided and Automatically Collected Information: per your Informed Consent to participate in the Study, as required by law (such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process); when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request; to our third party service providers who work on behalf of the Research Team and do not have independent use of the information we disclose to them and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy policy.

Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

We will retain User Provided data in accordance with your Informed Consent to participate in the Study.

You may stop participating in the Study at any time, please note, that if you withdraw from the Study, you will no longer be able to participate in the Study or use the Application. If you withdraw from the Study the Research team will retain the information about you that was collected in the Application prior to your withdrawal to assure the integrity of the Study results. Any User Provided data that is retained by the Research Team will be used/disclosed in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at WeCare@drexel.edu and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required in order for the Application to function properly, and we may be required to retain certain information by law.

Children

We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should immediately contact us at WeCare@drexel.edu. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.

Security

We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy in the Application. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.
